Property transactions represent one of the most significant financial and emotional moments in a person’s life, yet the conveyancing industry has long been associated with stress, poor communication, and outdated ways of working. At the same time, many legal professionals find themselves in high pressure environments with limited progression, little support, and few opportunities to build sustainable careers.
At LPL, we believe there is another way. Conveyancing should feel like a supported journey for clients, partners, and the people delivering the work. Careers should be built with clarity, encouragement, and genuine investment, not defined by burnout or stagnation. By combining proactive communication, modern technology that enhances human expertise, and a people first culture, LPL has reimagined what a conveyancing career can look like.
This approach is reflected in the career journey of Laila Abbas, who joined LPL as a Conveyancing Assistant and progressed to Deputy Head of Conveyancing within six years. Her progression is not an exception, but an example of how LPL supports long term development through clear pathways, trusted responsibility, and an environment where ambition is actively encouraged.
In this conversation, Laila shares insight into her experience of building a conveyancing career at LPL, and what it feels like to work within a firm that prioritises professional growth, wellbeing, and shared success, while delivering a calmer, more reliable experience for clients.
Career Development and Progression in Conveyancing at LPL
Q: What makes LPL a place where people want to build long term‑ careers?
It comes down to the environment. It is a very positive place to work which is vital if you want to do better and stay motivated. Seeing everyone around you being successful is a great motivator to push yourself further.
Q: What were your first impressions of the firm when you joined?
Before LPL, I worked at another conveyancing firm. What immediately drew me here was how hospitable and friendly everyone was. I picked up on that positive vibe right from my very first interview.
Q: Conveyancing is known for being high pressure‑. How does LPL support its team in managing that workload?
It is definitely high pressure but we use a case management system called Hoowla. It helps us manage our caseloads effectively and ensures we can provide timely‑ updates to our clients and third parties.
Q: How does the team maintain their well‑being during a busy workday?
We make a point of taking a mental health walk every lunchtime to decompress and step away from our desks. Additionally, LPL organises monthly activities at the end of each month to help us recharge.
Q: In your opinion, what makes LPL stand out from other volume conveyancing firms?
You are not just a number here; you are a valued member of the firm’s growth. What is brilliant, and almost hard to believe for a volume firm, is that it truly feels like a family.
A Different Way to Build a Conveyancing Career
Laila’s journey shows what becomes possible when conveyancing careers are designed around people, not pressure. At LPL, progression is clear, supported, and shaped around individual strengths, giving colleagues the tools, trust, and encouragement to grow from entry level roles into leadership positions.
By combining a people first culture, modern systems that enhance human expertise, and a genuine commitment to wellbeing, LPL creates an environment where legal professionals can build long term careers while delivering a calmer, more reliable experience for clients.
